Lecture 07 — Impulse and momentum
Learning objectives
Students should be able to:
- Calculate momentum and impulse, and relate them with the impulse–momentum theorem.
- Apply conservation of momentum to isolated systems.
- Solve one- and two-dimensional collision problems, and classify collisions as elastic or inelastic.
- Use the coefficient of restitution and combine collisions with energy methods.
Contact 1 — Understand
Build the physical idea. Focus: Define.
Contact 2 — Calculate
Develop the model and method. Focus: Conserve.
Contact 3 — Apply and Consolidate
Apply, integrate and transfer. Focus: Extend.
